Research Interests
Dr. Turgeon's research interests center on political behaviour, including voting and elections, public opinion, political psychology, political participation, and on statistical, experimental and survey methodology. His work is comparative and extends to Brazil, the U.S., France, Canada, and Latin America, more generally. His work has been published in English, Portuguese, French and Spanish.
Current Research Projects
Mathieu Turgeon is currently working on two large research projects. The first project looks at support for conspiracy theories in Brazil and in a comparative perspective. In particular, it looks at how support is affected by elite endorsement, how it relates to people’s interests, values and predispositions, and what can be done to correct such beliefs. The second project examines climate change misinformation. The project focuses on the measurement of climate change misinformation, how it relates to people’s sociodemographic and psychological, how it explains support (or lack thereof) for climate change policies, and how said misinformation can be corrected.
