Graduate Student Organizations

Explore a variety of organizations dedicated to supporting graduate student life, academic interests, professional development, and community engagement. Whether you’re seeking social connections, advocacy groups, or academic support, these organizations offer valuable resources and opportunities to enhance your graduate experience.

The Graduate Student Life website is here to empower graduate students by providing comprehensive, accessible, and up-to-date information on the services, supports, resources, and programs available to them at Western University.

This website is a campus-wide partnership led by Student Experience, with the support of the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies and Western International.  If you have any questions, comments, or feedback, please connect with us at gradlife@uwo.ca.

The Graduate Association of Political Science (GAPS) is a student-run organization dedicated to serving the needs of its members: all MA and PhD students in The Department of Political Science at Western. The primary aims of GAPS are to: 1) encourage the academic interests of its members, 2) foster a collegial and supportive environment within the department, and 3) elect representatives to external organizations (SOGS and the GTA union). If you have any questions, please feel free to email uwo.gaps@gmail.com. For more information about GAPS and the executive positions, please see the GAPS constitution.

The School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (SGPS) sets policy and helps administer all graduate programs on campus. They are the source for university-wide regulations about things like thesis committees, thesis defenses, thesis submission deadlines, and thesis format.

Check out their Upcoming Events page for great opportunities to attend upcoming events including public lectures and graduate workshops.

Graduate students are represented on campus by the Society of Graduate Students (SOGS). They administer health/dental benefits, and provide financial programs and scholarships, as well as advocacy.
The Graduate Teaching Assistants Union (PSAC) provides support and advocacy for all Teaching Assistants. Details about the agreement can be found in the GTA Collective Agreement.
Western International provides information and support for international students.
