Michael Laurence, Ph.D candidate in Political Theory, has been representing
our department admirably at conferences in Canada and the United States. He
presented a paper called “After the Subject: Toward an Alternative Theory of
Democracy,” at the annual meeting of the American Comparative Literature
Association in Providence, Rhode Island (March 31, 2012); a paper called
Re-thinking Democracy After the Subject,” at the annual meeting of the
Canadian Political Science Association, in Edmonton, Alberta (June 14,
2012); and he will be presenting “Democratic Theory at a Crossroads:
Re-thinking Democracy From Prague to Chiapas, From Institutionalization to
Dissensus,” at the annual meeting of the American Political Science
Association in New Orleans (forthcoming September 1, 2012). Congratulations
